Exeter Hospital Participates in the U. S. Bone and Joint Decade

The mission of the United States Bone and Joint Decade (USBJD) is "to provide national leadership and coordination of activities in the United States in the worldwide movement to improve patient care, to promote research and to advance understanding and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions during the International Bone and Joint Decade."

Supporting organizations of the Bone and Joint Decade are engaged in developing new research and education programs that will bring about significant advances in the knowledge, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, and increase the number of resources at the disposal of the healthcare profession and the public at large. Overall, we're committed to making an impact on the estimated $254 billion annual cost of musculoskeletal conditions in the United States.

The goals of the USBJD are:

  • To raise the awareness of the American people of the growing burden of musculoskeletal disorders on society
  • To promote prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and empower patients through educational programs
  • To advance research in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders
  • To improve diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders

The Governer of New Hampshire has signed a Proclamation by the President of the United States, in which he declares “the years 2002-2011, as National Bone and Joint Decade. I call upon the people of the United States to observe the decade with appropriate programs and activities; and I call upon the medical community to pursue research in this important area.”
